About Us

We are the Eagles Boccia Club and are the first independent Boccia Club in Welwyn and Hatfield.

We were given a kick start by an organisation called the Activate Forum who runs multi disability sports festivals in Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield. They are sponsored by Welwyn and Hatfield Council and the Welwyn and Hatfield sports alliance.

A Boccia taster session was arranged for one of the meetings and a lot of interest was shown. We got some funding the Kestrel Club and the council, which paid for the equipment.

Then the Activate Forum arranged a Boccia community leaders training day at Hornbeams Day Services in Welwyn Garden City. This gave everyone who attended a certificate and a good general knowledge about playing, coaching and refereeing.

In 2007 we decided to form the Eagle’s Boccia Club and we now meet twice a month at the Jim Macdonald Centre in Hatfield. Then in 2009 the club was put forward for an award and won the newcomers club award in the Hertfordshire sporting partnership awards, which was a really proud moment for the club.

We now play in the Boccia England community pan League every year.

We have now introduced a new sport to our sessions, which is new age Kurling and are planning to have an open day in the next few months. This is another sport which disabled people and able bodied alike can play.
